Macroscopic FeaturesIrregular lumps, or sub-cylindrical granules, uneven size, 0.5~1cm diameter, occasionally can reach 3cm. Externally pale yellow to yellowish-brown, translucent to opaque. Brittle texture and easily broken, broken surface has glass-like luster. Aromatic odor, more potent when burnt; tasteless.

FunctionsDispels wind, boosts blood, relieves toxin and pain, stops bleeding, engenders flesh. Apply to ulcer, sore, scrofula, toothache, impediment, paralysis, hematemesis, epistaxis, hemoptysis, traumatic bleeding, and chapped skin.
OriginThe dried resin of Liquidambar formosana Hance.(Hamanelidaceae). Cut the tree trunk during July and august, and collect the resin during October to April of next year, dry in dark.
