Macroscopic FeaturesFlat pieces, uneven length and width, about 2~4mm thick. Outer surface is yellowish-green or pale brownish-yellow, relatively flat, with irregular longitudinal cracks, lenticel scars are small and sparse, sometimes there are grayish-white remnants of rough skin. Inner surface is yellow or yellowish-brown. Light, relatively hard texture; fractured surface is fresh yellow or yellow-green, fibrous, sometimes cracks into layers. faint odor; extremely bitter taste, sticky when chewed.
Quality RequirementsSuperior medicinal material has thick cortex and yellow fractured surface.
FunctionsClears heat, dry dampness, removes fire, eliminates steaming, resolves toxin, treats sores. Apply to dysentery due to damp-heat pathogen, jaundice, leukorrhea, pyretic stranguria, beriberi, osteopyrexia, night sweat, emissions, burns and scalds and swelling.
