Black Locust Flower

Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Shandong.

Wrinkled and rolled, petals often fell off; intact flower has bell-like calyx, yellowish-green; petal is yellowish white or yellow. Light in weight; slightly bitter taste. Flower bud (huai mi) is oval or elliptical shape, with yellowish-green calyx; top is yellowish-white patel of non-opened flower; externally yellowish-brown. Light in weight. Slightly bitter and astringent taste.

Superior medicinal material is yellowish-green, large, tight.

Bitter; slightly cold.

Cools blood, stops blood, clears the liver, drains fire. Apply to hemafecia due to intestinal wind, hemorrhoid hemorrhage, hematodiarrhea, hematuria, bloody stranguria, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, hematemesis, non-traumatic hemorrhage, headache due to live fire, conjunctival congestion ans swellingpain, throat impediment, aphonia, abscess and sore.

Fried huai hua: Put clean huai hua into pre-heated pot, fry with slow fire, till turn dark yellow, take out and cool. It has aromatic odor. Moderates the cold nature of huai hua, deactivates the enzymes, and promotes the storage. Weaker effect of clearing heat and cooling blood compared to Huai hua, stopping blood effect is weaker than it of the huai hua charcoal but stronger than Huai hua. Apply to patient with inner bleeding due to deficiency of spleen and stomach. Huai hua charcoal: put clean huai hua into pre-heated pot, fry with middle fire, till turn burnt-brown, apray with little water to cease fire spark, fry to dry, take out and cool. Light in weight, astringent taste. very weak effect of clearing heat and cooling blood, strengthened astringe effect, advanced in stopping blood. Apply to hemoptysis, non-traumatic hemorrhage, hemafecia, hemorrhoid hemorrhage, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis and other bleeding diseases.
