Production RegionsPrimarily produced in Hebei, Inner Mongolia, and the northwest and northeast of China.
Macroscopic FeaturesEnlarged fusiform or conical to long cylindrical shape, slightly wrinkled, 7~30cm long, 2~7cm wide; root head has remnants of aerial stem base; externally brown, with longitudinal wrinkles and horizontal thin-long lenticels, sometimes has remnants of thin roots. After the cortex falls off, white soft fibers can be seen. Light in mass, pliable texture, not easily broken, fractured surface has yellowish-white xylem and white cortex, fibrous. faint odor; slightly sweet taste, slightly bitter and spicy.
Quality RequirementsSuperior medicinal material is thick, pliable.

FunctionsDrains water, expels fluids, breaks accumulation, kills worms. Apply to edema and abdominal swelling, phlegm combined with dyspepsia and parasitic malnutrition, abdominal mass, cardiac and abdominal pain, tuberculosis, scab and lichen.
