Nux Vomica

Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Yunnan.

Button-like round disc shape, often slightly bulging on one side, with one side slightly indented, 1.5~3cm diameter, 0.3~0.6cm thick. Surface densely covered grayish-brown or grayish-green silk-like hairs, in a radial arrangement from the center towards the four edges, with silk-like luster. Edges are slightly raised, relatively thick, has raised micropyle, center of the base surface has raised round spot-like hilum. Hard texture, on the cut cross-section, a pale yellow-white endosperm can be seen, horn-like, heart-shape cotyledon, 5~7 leaf veins. faint odor, very bitter taste.

Superior medicinal material is large, full, hard texture, thick flesh, grayish-yellow color with luster.

Bitter, warm, very toxic

Frees channels, stops pain, disperses binds, reduces swelling. Apply to wind-damp impediment, numbness and paralysis, injury from falls, abscess swelling pain, sequelae of infantile paralysis, rheumatoid arthritis.
