Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Fujian.
Macroscopic Features
Stem is cylindrical, externally yellowish-brown or yellowish-green, some is purple, with obvious joints and longitudinal ridges; brittle texture, fractured surface has white pith or hollow center. Opposing leaves, with stems, leaves often wrinkled, broken, greenish-brown, intact leaves has 3 lobes or no lobes, the middle lobe is relatively large, lanceolate or long round lanceolate after flattened, base is narrow, edges have saw-teeth; uncracked is oval-round, oval-lanceolate or elliptical shape after flattened. Aromatic odor, slightly bitter taste.
Quality Requirements
Superior medicinal material has tender texture, numerous leaves, green color, potent aromatic odor.

Aromatically transforms dampness, arouses the spleen, increases the apprtite, releases the exterior and resolves summerheat. Apply to dampness stasis in middle-jiao, abdominal retention and fullness with vomiting, sweet and greasy taste, kakostomia, ptyalism, summerheat and damp exterior, early stage of damp and heat, fever and lassitude, chest oppression.
