Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chu'nan region of Zhejiang, as well as Hunan and Hubei.
Macroscopic Features
Scale-like or flake-like aggregate lumps. Irregular flat flake-like or long oblique lumps, no obvious ridges. Brownish-black or greenish-black, with glass-like luster. Soft texture, easily broken, fractured surface is obviously layered. Powder is often greenish-black scales (black mica), with star-like shiny luster. faint odor, tasteless.
Quality Requirements
Superior medicinal material has star spots, grayish-green color.

Functions
Downbears phlegm and qi, calms liver, settles fright. Apply to chronic phlegm stasis, coughing and panting, epilepsy, irritability and chest tightness, and convulsion. Often produced in pills.
Technical Terms
‘Bright silver star’: this refers to the crystal of some components precipitated out on the medicinal material surface, when examined under lights, shiny luster can be seen.
Origin
The black mica schist or a chabonate schist of chlorite mica (a metamorphic rock).
