Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Henan, Shandong, cultivated in most areas of China.
Macroscopic Features
Long cylindrical, often branched, frequently bound into bundles, 1.5~6mm diameter. Externally brownish-red to dark brown, some is grayish-green, smooth or covered in downy hairs, outer skin easily falls off. Branches has numerous nodes, internode is 6~9cm long, with remnants of leaf and leaf scars. Brittle texture, easily broken, fractured surface is yellowish-white, center is hollow. faint odor, old branches are slightly bitter, fresh branches are tasteless.
Quality Requirements
Superior medicinal material has even branches, hairy fresh branch, jujube-red outer skin, tender texture with leaves.
