Hupeh Liriope Root Tuber

Primarily produced in the chines provinces of Hubei, Fujian.

Liriope spicata (Thunb.) Lour. var. prolifera: fusiform, slightly pointed two ends, 1.2~3cm long, 0.4~0.7cm diameter. Externally pale yellow to brownish-yellow, with irregular longitudinal wrinkles. Soft and pliable texture, easily broken after dried, fractured surface is pale yellow to brownish-yellow, horn-like, stele (woody core) is thin and small. faint odor, sweet taste, sticky when chewed. Liriope muscari (Decne.) Baily.: slightly flat, 2~5cm long, 0.3~0.8cm diameter, with rough longitudinal lines. Sweet taste, slightly bitter.

Superior medicinal material is yellowish-white, large and fat.

Sweet, slightly bitter, slightly cold.

Nourishes yin, engenders fluid, moistens lung, clears heart. Apply to cough due to lung dryness, cough due to deficiency, damage of fluid and thirst, vexation and insomnia, constipation due to dryness of intestine.
