Production RegionsPrimarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Gansu.
Macroscopic FeaturesFlat cylindrical shape or has one slightly thin end, 8~21cm long, 2~5cm diameter. Externally reddish-brown to dark brown, wrinkled, creating thick and large grooves or irregular impressions, sometimes can see triangular scales, and some remnants of inflorescence. Hard texture, hard to break, fractured surface is slightly granular, brown, soft and moistened. faintly aromatic odor, slightly bitter and astringent taste. Suo yang slices are horizontally cut or angular cut thick slices, about 1cm thick, often bound.
Quality RequirementsSuperior medicinal material is fat and large, red, firm, with powdery fractured surface and indistinct veins.
FunctionsSupplements kidney, moistens intestines. Apply to impotence, hematuria, constipation due to dryness of blood, atrophy and softening of waist and knees.
