Sandalwood

Primarily produced in India, Indonesia, Malaysia.

Cylindrical sections in uneven length, sometimes slightly curved, often 1m long, 10~30cm diameter. Externally grayish-yellow or yellowish-brown, smooth and fine. Sometimes has scar joints or longitudinal cracks, cross-section surface is brownish-yellow, oily; brown annual ring is obvious or indistinct, longitudinally-split grains are orderly and straight. Firm texture, hard to break. Clear aromatic odor, produces a potent aroma when burned; initially tasteless, slightly spicy and acrid taste when chewed. Pieces are often curled or broken slices, externally grayish-yellow, relatively rough, with delicate split grains.

Superior medicinal material is heavy, firm, with obvious oily stains and a potent aroma.

Acrid, warm

Moves qi, warms the middle, opens appetite, relieves pain. apply to cold stasis and qi stagnation, chest pain, abdominal pain, lack of food intake due to stomachache, coronary disease, angina pectoris.
