Macroscopic FeaturesIrregular tuberous, polygon or three-ridged shape, 0.6~1.6cm tall, 0.7~2cm diameter. Dark brown to translucent reddish-brown, external surface is uneven, often has cracks, apex often has one raised bud-like protrusion. Hard texture, hard to break, fractured surface is horn-like, lustrous and smooth with slightly burnt odor, slightly salty and bitter taste.
Quality RequirementsSuperior medicinal material is large, reddish-brown, with firm texture, lustrous, translucent.
PropertiesBitter, slightly cold.
FunctionsDisperses binds, eliminates swelling, resolves toxin. Apply to mammary abscess, scrofula; mastitis, lymphoid tuberculosis, chronic adenitis, hypertrophic rhinitis.
