Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Anhui, Jilin, Liaoning, Shandong.
Macroscopic Features
Root is cylindrical or sub-cylindrical, slightly crooked, some has branches, whole length is 5~17cm, 0.5~1cm diameter; externally dark brown or dark purplish-red, with wrinkles, rough skin is easily fallen off; root head is slightly enlarged; hard texture, easily broken, fractured surface is thin, dark brown, often split from the xylem, rays are radial arranged. Leaves grow from the base, singular compound pinnate leaves, with stems; leaflet is narrow long elliptical shape, edge is deep pinnate lobes, lower surface and leaf stem densely covered grayish-white soft hairs. faint odor, astringent, slightly bitter taste.
