Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Sichuan.

Irregular rolled shape, outer surface is grayish-brown, with slightly twisted wrinkles and horizontal long lenticel-like spotted marks; inner surface is pale yellow or grayish-yellow, with thin longitudinal wrinkles. Light in weight, brittle texture, easily broken, fractured surface is uneven, grayish-white, faintly aromatic odor, slightly spicy and bitter taste.

Superior medicinal material has thick skin, aromatic odor, grayish-white fractured surface.

Acrid, bitter, warm

Dispels wind, eliminates dampness, supplements liver and kidney, strengthens sinew and bone, promotes urination, eliminates swelling. Apply to wind-damp impediment, flaccidity of extremities, delayed walking ability in children, weakness and debilitation, edema, beriberi.
