Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Shandong.
Macroscopic Features
Rolled tube-like, sometimes with irregular rolled flakes, 2~4mm thick. Externally grayish-brown or yellowish-brown, cortex easily falls off and the inner skin is yellowish-white, inner surface is pale yellowish-white or reddish-brown, with thin longitudinal lines. Brittle texture, fractured surface is uneven, pale yellow. Distinctively aromatic odor, bitter taste.
Quality Requirements
Superior medicinal material has thick strip, thick cortex, rolled tube-like, without woody core, potent aromatic odor, bitter taste.

Acrid, bitter, warm, toxic
Functions
Promotes urination, eliminates swelling, dispels wind-damp, strengthens sinew and bone. Apply to edema of lower extremity, palpitation and shortness of breath, wind-cold and damp impediment, weakness of waist and knees.
