Macroscopic Features

Often 3~7 flowers cluster on a short flower stalk, the base has 1~2 bracts, often falls off to become single flowers. Single flowers have a rod-like shape and often curved, 1~1.7cm long, about 1.5mm in diameter; perianth tube is externally pale purple or grayish-green, densely covered in short soft hairs, tip has 4 lobes, lobes are pale purple or yellowish-brown. Soft texture.

Functions

Drains water, expels rheum, resolves toxin, kills worms. Apply to edema, chest and abdomen dropsy, phlegm rheum accumulation, inverse qi with cough and panting, difficulty in urination and defecation, externally use to furuncles and ulcers and bald sore, chilblain. Root bark: eliminates swelling, resolve toxin, invigorates blood, and relieves pain. Apply to acute mastitis, Carbuncle furuncle swelling toxin, lymph node tuberculosis, ascites, rheumatic pain, toothache, injury from falls.

Processed Form

Vinegar yuan hua: Clean yuan hua, process followed the way of vinegar-process, fry until absorb total vinegar. Every 100kg yuan hua need 30kg vinegar. Processed form has darkened color, moderated toxin of medicinal material.
