Production RegionsPrimarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Jiangxi.
Macroscopic FeaturesLength is 50~120cm. Rhizome is relatively thick and large, densely has thin roots. Stem is cylindrical, often has branches, 0.3~1.3cm diameter; externally dark green to dark brown, with obvious thin wrinkles, scattered longitudinal lenticels, nodes are enlarged; brittle texture, easily broken, fractured surface has pith or hollow center. Opposing leaves, oval lanceolate to oval elliptical shape, 5~15cm long, 3~6cm wide; externally green, greenish-brown to brown or brownish-red, smooth; edges has thick saw-teeth, which has black-brown glands at the tip, petiole is about 1cm long; nearly leathery texture. Flower spikes grow out from the apex and are often branched. faintly aromatic odor, slightly acrid taste.
