Production Regions
Primarily produced in the Chinese provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hebei, Henan.
Macroscopic Features
Elliptical or spherical, 2~3.5cm long, 1.5~2.5cm diameter. Externally dark red, with slightly luster, and irregular wrinkles. Base is indented with short fruit stem. Exocarp is thin; mesocarp is yellowish-brown or pale brown, fleshy, soft, sugary and oily. Seed is fusiform, with pointy ends. Hard texture; faintly aromatic odor; sweet taste.
Quality Requirements
Superior medicinal material is large, red, fleshy and oily.

Sweet; warm.
Functions
Supplements the center, boosts qi, nourishes blood, calms spirit. Apply to spleen deficiency patterns of poor appetite and sloppy stool, visceral agitation in women.
Origin
